Senior Kolby Pope allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts against one walk. Offensively, he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, drove in a team-high five runs, and scored three times.

Warren, now 14-4 overall and 6-1 in 4A-8 play, scored once in the top of the first on a Hayden Cathey RBI double, and extended the lead to 5-0 in the second frame when Pope hit a bases-clearing double for three more runs followed by another run-scoring hit by Hayden Cathey. The Bulldogs (4-14, 1-6 in 4A-8) scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to make the score 5-1.

The Orange and Black posted another big inning in the third frame with five more runs. Nathan Spears walked with the bases loaded for the first run before Pope’s second two-bagger plated two more runs. Another two-run double, this one by Jude Cathey, capped the scoring in the frame. The Jacks tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning when AJ Jordan belted a two-run homer over the left-field fence to extend the score to 12-1.

Pope allowed a leadoff single in the fourth inning, but a strikeout and 6-4-3 double play kept Star City off of the scoreboard. He allowed a one-out baserunner in the bottom of the fifth, but a flyout to right field and strikeout sealed the 12-1 victory for Warren.

Hayden Cathey, Parker O’Neal, and Tucker McDiarmid each had two-hit efforts for the Jacks offensively.

Warren returns to action next Tuesday, April 22 in a pivotal home game against Crossett. First pitch from the Warren Sports Complex is set for 5 p.m.
