Star City struck early, capitalizing on a pair of defensive miscues to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Warren answered quickly in the bottom half as Haven Johnson worked a leadoff walk and came around to score on Charlee Wardlaw’s RBI single, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Though Star City tacked on additional runs in the second and fourth innings, Warren’s defense showed moments of lockdown play, notably retiring the Lady Bulldogs in order in the third inning. Offensively, the Lady Jacks continued to find ways to get runners aboard, and in the bottom of the fifth, the bats came alive.
Trailing 9-1, Warren rallied behind Presley Reep’s leadoff walk and another free pass by Haven Johnson. Ember Johnson then delivered a two-run double, and Wardlaw followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Johnson and trim the deficit to 9-4.
Ultimately, Star City’s offense pulled away late, but Warren’s effort never wavered. Wardlaw led the Lady Jacks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Reep finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, and both Ember Johnson and Raeleigh Milton added hits and crossed the plate. Haven Johnson scored twice.
Despite the loss, Warren remains an impressive 8-1 on the season and will look to bounce back Thursday when they host Drew Central at 5:00 p.m.
