The Lumberjacks (11-3, 3-0) started a two-out rally in the top of the seventh when Jude Cathey singled. Courtesy runner Aceen Jurado stole second before Tucker McDiarmid walked to set up the go-ahead single by Ryan Spears into left field. Pope struck out the first batter of the bottom half and induced a groundout before putting the tying run on base with a walk. However, Nathan Spears made a shoestring catch on a line drive in left field to clinch the 4-3 victory.
Pope tossed a complete game to earn the win and allowed three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts against one walk. Ryan Spears led the Jacks with three hits, including a double, and the game-winning RBI. Jude Cathey and Pope registered two hits and one RBI apiece.
The Jacks started fast when AJ Jordan led off with a single and scored on a RBI double by Pope. Pope scored on an error to put Warren ahead 2-0. The Eagles, who fell to 10-4 and 2-1 in conference, quickly struck back with two runs in the bottom of the opening frame.
The Orange and Black regained the lead 3-2 in the third inning when Jude Cathey singled home Hayden Cathey with two outs. Crossett tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after an error and ensuing RBI double to set up the seventh-inning dramatics.
The Lumberjacks return to action on Tuesday, April 8 when they welcome rival Monticello to the Warren Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
