Willie Lee ‘Tamp’ Childs, 1948-2025

Willie Lee ‘Tamp’ Childs, 76, of Warren, passed away May 23, 2025. Born November 9, 1948, to Henry and Sue Ella Childs. He was married to Joyce Childs for 36 years before God called her home.

Willie attended Banks and Hermitage High School during his school age years. He worked at Balwin Plant in Camden, AR and retired with 35 years from Potlatch Corporation in Warren, AR. From a young age, Willie had a passion for all things outdoors. He loved fishing, DIY home projects and was a part of the Friendship Hunting Club. He was a member of Holy Hill COGIC where he served as a committed usher and head deacon until his health began to fail.

He was deeply committed to his faith and his community and was known for his bold and courageous spirit. His unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone he met. His energy and passion for life will never be forgotten by all who knew him.

Willie was preceded in death by both parents, Henry & Sue Ella Childs; two brothers, Donald Childs, Wayne Childs; one sister, Georgia Hines and his wife, Joyce Childs.

He is survived by his sons, James Neal (Brette) of Monterey, CA., Erwin Tatum of Dallas, TX., Christopher Gannaway of Camden, AR; daughters, LaKita Childs of Sherwood, AR, LaRita Childs of Little Rock, AR, LaToya Stanley (Reginald) of Jacksonville, AR; brother, Calvin Childs (Regina) of Little Rock, AR; sisters, Donnie Childs, Betty Trotter, Marion Davis all of Warren, AR, Brenda Schuler of Tulsa, OK, Marilyn Momon (Richard) of Los Angeles, CA, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service was held May 31 at Holy Deliverance COGIC in Warren with Dr. Joseph L. Mosley officiating and Elder Terry Correll pastor. Burial was in Childs Cemetery, Banks, AR. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
