The Delta Justice Center and the Veterans Legal Services Clinic at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law will partner to host a legal clinic for veterans. This free event will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the VFW in Monticello (148 Veterans Drive, Monticello, AR 71655).
This clinic will offer free consultations on VA disability appeals and discharge upgrades. Other legal issues will be considered on a referral basis. Veterans from the surrounding areas are welcome and invited to attend.
Arkansas has a veteran population of more than 200,000 while there are only 55 VA accredited attorneys in the state. This special designation is required to handle VA appeals, and most of these attorneys are concentrated in the central and northwest Arkansas areas. Southeast Arkansas is a legal desert with less than 1 attorney for every 1,000 residents with even fewer accredited to handle VA claims.
Partners for this clinic include the Delta Justice Center, UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Veterans Legal Services Clinic, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4515. Attorneys who would like to volunteer can contact Attorney Tabitha Lee for more information.
The Veterans Legal Services Clinic is directed by Zach Baumgarten, a native of Monticello, and the Delta Justice Center is led by Tabitha Lee, a native of Dermott. “Southeast Arkansas is where we both grew up and it is so important for us to give back to the community that made us. There are an estimated 5,000 veterans living in the area and we want to make sure we give back to those who served our country,” says Zach.
Clinic attorneys will see walk-ins on a first come first served basis. Please bring any relevant documentation about your legal issue to the clinic.
