MORO BAY, Ark. – Moro Bay State Park has announced updates on river conditions, an upcoming free fishing weekend, and an in-person Boater Education course.

As of this week, the river level at Moro Bay is 80.90 feet—approximately 16 feet above the normal summer level of 65 feet. The river has now crested at Thatcher Lock and Dam upstream, meaning the Bay is also cresting. However, park officials note that it may be another week or more before fishing conditions fully improve and sandbars become accessible again.

The Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend is set to begin at noon on Friday, June 6, and will run through midnight on Sunday, June 8. During this time, no fishing license will be required, giving anglers of all ages a chance to enjoy the sport at no cost.

Additionally, Moro Bay State Park will host a six-hour, in-person Boater Education course on Saturday, June 28. This class is required for anyone born on or after January 1, 1986, who plans to operate a motorboat in Arkansas. Participants must be able to read at a sixth-grade level, as a written test will be administered. Only 10 spots remain available.
