Rotary Hears About New Service Line at BCMC

The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, Sept. 9 inside the Fellowship Hall at First Methodist Church for its first meeting of September. The first group of Junior Rotarians for the 2025-26 school year were present with Charlee Wardlaw and Jude Cathey both making speeches about their current achievements and plans for the future. Leah St. John with Friends of the Library also spoke briefly about what they are doing as a group to be active again. National Friends of Libraries Week is Oct. 19-25 and she invited Rotary Club members to an event on Wednesday, Oct. 22 since the club’s main service project is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

The main program for the day featured Sharee Williams and Stephanie Slaughter of the Bradley County Medical Center’s Respiratory Therapy Department. Both shared information cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, a new service line the hospital will open with a tentative start date of Nov. 3. This service line is designed to improve the health and well-being of individuals with heart and lung conditions. Some of the indications for pulmonary rehab include COPD, asthma, lung cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, and more. Indications for cardiac rehab comprise of heart attack in the last 12 months, coronary stenting, heart transplant, heart valve repair or replacement, and more. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is an evidence-based intervention that has been shown to improve health outcomes and reduce mortality rates in patients with heart and lung conditions. They are excited to be able to bring this service to BCMC and answered a few questions to end their presentation. The Rotary Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
