Former Bradley County High School Site Undergoes Controlled Burn

WARREN, Ark. – The remains of the old Bradley County High School in Warren were burned Saturday in a controlled and planned process overseen by the property’s private owner. The structure had been torn down prior to the burn.

The school once served as the African American high school in Bradley County during the era of segregation in the United States. When it operated as a segregated school, its mascot was the Wildcats. The school played an important role in the community during a difficult period for African Americans in American history, providing education and opportunity amid widespread racial inequality.

Following the integration of local schools, the Warren School District used the building for a short period before it was eventually closed. The site, now privately owned, sits at the corner of Thomas C. Brunson and Abernathy Streets in Warren.
