MONTICELLO, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) is bringing three nights of adrenaline-fueled rodeo action to town with the 2025 Weevil Stampede, set for October 16 through 18 at the UAM Truck Driving Academy on Highway 425 South. Performances begin each night at 7 p.m.
Collegiate athletes from across the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Ozark Region will compete in events including barrel racing, team roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding and bronc riding.
“Spectators will get to see hometown kids performing and doing what they love,” said Ali Jo Cruce, UAM Rodeo Team member and South Arkansas native. “It’s such a thrill to watch fast-paced timed events and the scoring events like bareback riding; there’s something for everyone!”
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6–12 and free for children five and under. UAM students with a valid ID can attend for $5.
For Cruce, the Weevil Stampede is a special tradition for community members of all ages.
“My favorite thing about our home rodeo is getting to go to the elementary and middle schools and wave at all the kids in the mornings,” Cruce said. “Seeing their faces light up when they spot the horses makes my day!”
Rusty Jones, rodeo coach at UAM, encouraged the community to come out and support the athletes, stating, “The Weevil Stampede is one of the highlights of our season. Our students put in countless hours of practice, and this is their chance to showcase their hard work in front of family, friends and fans. We’re proud to bring top collegiate rodeo talent to Monticello and provide great entertainment for the community.”
