Shelby Jean Kiersey, 1938-2025

Shelby Jean Kiersey, age 87, of Banks, AR passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 28th, 2025 at Chapel Woods Nursing Center in Warren, AR.

She was born June 15, 1938 in Banks, AR the youngest daughter to Frank Hooks and Maude Mosely Hooks. After graduating from Banks High School Shelby moved to Booneville, AR. There she trained and worked as a surgical scrub technician at the Arkansas Tuberculosis Sanitorium in Booneville. Shelby returned to Bradley County and continued working for a time at Duracraft Boatworks in Monticello and then sewing garments for Jack Winter garments in Warren. For 27 years she filled many administrative duties at the Bradley County Medical Center.

On January 10, 1958, Shelby married Lawrence. She loved camping and fishing with Lawrence as well as visiting with her many family and friends. As a ladies’ basketball record holder in her youth, Shelby continued her love of sports by attending her grandchildren’s games and participating in a game or two even into her fifties. She was a wonderful cook and served in the Bradley County Home Extension Club. Shelby was a member of Banks Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving is her husband of 67 years, Lawrence Kiersey, Banks, AR. A daughter Regina Scroggins and spouse Todd of Warren, AR. A son Mike Kiersey and spouse Melissa, Benton, AR. 6 beloved grandchildren Maribeth Hicks (Ryan), Dr. Lindsey McBride (Brad), Josh Scroggins (Candys), Hayden Kiersey (Christina), Lauren Kiersey, and Dr. Olivia Kiersey. 8 Great grandchildren.

Also preceding in her death were her brothers Warren Thomas Hooks, Thomas Lee Hooks and sisters Georgia Mae Smith, Sue Johnson, Lillian Baker, and Dixie Young.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, November 1st. Visitation will be at Frazer’s Funeral home at 1pm followed immediately by the service in Frazer’s Chapel at 2pm. Burial in McFarland Cemetery.
