WARREN, Ark. (12/30/25) – The Bradley County Medical Center Board of Directors met Monday, Dec. 29 inside the hospital’s conference room for its monthly meeting and final one of 2025. Financial reports, executive updates, and policy approvals were among the topics covered.

Minutes from the previous gathering were approved before Controller Matt Pace spoke about financials. Gross patient revenue was $2,840,548 for the month with net operating revenue totaling $1,138,445. A net loss of $699,565 was reported for the month, but Pace did say accounts receivable went down $672,000. The sales tax fund is at $5,957,161.86 after receiving $121,562.72 from the previous month. Most service lines saw volume decreases aside from increases in occupational therapy and speech therapy.

CEO/CFO Leslie Huitt gave her report next and led off with some thoughts on the financials and low volumes. Low volumes seem to be a trend across the region with the other CEO’s she talks to, and our inpatient days are down because we are getting more severe illnesses that require a transfer to another facility. Volumes usually slow during the holidays as well, but it looked like they were on the upward trajectory in the last few days. She also stated that the marketing position has been posted and there have been several applicants.

Despite the revenue being down for the month, Huitt saw several positives in the revenue cycle with accounts receivable decreasing, collections increasing, and the use of cash slowing down. Charts have been staying caught up and they have been more on top of denials. When it comes to volumes there are certain things that hurt BCMC such as keeping patients in observation too long. Medicare Advantage plans are also an issue as they don’t want patients admitted to the hospital even if they really need it.

There was some discussion about the bigger facilities in Little Rock, which have turned down some patients that needed to be transferred from us recently. It isn’t known if this is due to lack of space or more for lack of staff to treat patients. Huitt continued her segment with an update on an audit that is close to 90% done but has to wait until the cost report is completed sometime in mid to late February. Lastly, she commended Deedre Pierce and the radiology staff for passing their inspection with no deficiencies.

Chief Nursing Officer Jamie Wolfe circled back to some of the discussion about bigger facilities and that we have had to keep some patients in the ER longer than usual, which can be frustrating for them, but also for our staff. He said the staff has handled it well so far. He added that it can get hard to have proper staffing around the holidays with everyone wanting to have time away for their families. It’s a problem everywhere, but he did say we are in a decent position with staffing, though there are some open positions he’d love to fill. He finished his segment by letting the board know flu and COVID cases are on the rise.

Chief Operating Officer Leeanna Williams informed the board how thankful the occupational therapy and speech therapy staffs were with the room being remodeled at the Brunson Medical Complex for pediatric patients that the board approved last month. The maintenance staff have already been working on it and have made a tremendous amount of progress.

Williams introduced four policy manuals for annual approval. Those manuals included Fire and Building Safety, Home Health, Maintenance, and Surgery. All four were approved by the board unanimously. The meeting then transitioned to an executive session before being adjourned.
