James Don Smith went home to be with his Lord and Savior December 19, 2025. He was born on August 25, 1934, to Brit and Lillian Smith.
He married the love of his life on May 7, 1955. The love that Don and Dorothy have for each other is apparent to anyone who meets them. There are so many memories these two have shared over their years of marriage. From travels all over during his time in service, to having three children that he adored, then enjoying time with their grandchildren (who could do no wrong), great-grandchildren (who absolutely did no wrong) and a great-great-granddaughter who he loved watching run around. His family was the most important thing to him.
He is preceded in death by his brothers James Mart Smith, Wesley Smith, Carl Smith, a sister Leaton May Smith, his son James (Jimmy) Smith and granddaughters Krystal Rose Stark and Alisha Stark.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Dorothy Smith, daughters LaDonna (Ken) Goodwin, and Linda (Steven) Adams, daughter-in-law Barb Smith, grandchildren, Tiffany (Mark) Pennington, Michael (Lauren) Lynch, Joey Smith, April (Justin) Green, Kaitlin (Michael) Cabrera, and Brandi Smith (David Romine), great-grandchildren Cole (Megan) Pennington, Sawyer (Sayra) Pennington, Lex Lynch, Eli Lynch, Jailee Green, Amelia Green, Imogen Cantu, Victoria Riley, Alice Romine, and Dorothy Romine and one great-great-grandchild Everleigh Pennington.
If there was one thing he would want his friends and family to know is that he knew he was going to Heaven to be with Jesus, and he would want to make sure each one of us had that same reassurance. He would tell us to go to church. He loved church!
Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Sunday December 21, 2025, at Frazer’s Funeral Home with Bro. David Inzer officiating. Burial was in Adam-Singer Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Joey Smith, Mark Pennington, Cole Pennington, Sawyer Pennington, Justin Green, and Dusty Byrd. Honorary pallbearers were the members at Landmark Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Warren Veterans Museum.
