WARREN, Ark. – Recently, students at the Southeast Arkansas Community-Based Education Center (SEACBEC) heard firsthand about safety expectations and career opportunities within the railroad industry during a visit from Union Pacific.
John Varnell with Union Pacific met with 10th–12th grade career and technical education students to discuss workplace safety, job readiness, and potential career paths with the company. During the presentation, students learned about Union Pacific’s C.A.R.E.S. program and the core expectations the company emphasizes for employees, including maintaining a drug-free workplace, avoiding phone use on the job, and reporting to work prepared and ready each day.
The session included students from Hermitage, Fordyce, Warren, and Woodlawn high schools who are enrolled in SEACBEC’s Computer Science, Construction, and Welding programs.
SEACBEC officials said opportunities like the visit help connect classroom learning with real-world expectations, giving students a clearer understanding of what employers are looking for as they prepare to enter the workforce.
