Lady Jacks edge Star City on the road, improve to 19-2

STAR CITY, Ark. — The Warren Lady Jacks pulled off a thrilling 42-39 road victory over the Star City Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night, improving their impressive record to 19-2 overall and 2-0 in Conference 8-4A.

Warren came out strong in the opening quarter, building an 8-4 lead behind four early points from Breize Fellows. Star City responded in the second quarter with a six-point run to briefly take an 11-10 advantage, but the Lady Jacks answered quickly. Bayleigh Miller knocked down back-to-back field goals, and Khourtni Johnson added a basket to help Warren regain control and carry a 17-15 lead into halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Johnson, who dominated the period with six points while shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Even after Star City connected on a key three-pointer late in the quarter to briefly take a 27-26 lead, Johnson and Nyla Simmons answered with consecutive baskets to put Warren back in front, 30-27, heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle. Star City used a seven-point run to take a 34-32 lead, but Fellows responded with back-to-back field goals to swing the advantage back to Warren. After the Lady Bulldogs tied the game once more, the Lady Jacks delivered in the closing moments. Fellows led all scorers with 13 points, Miller added 11, and Johnson finished with 10 points while remaining perfect at the free-throw line. Miller’s late basket and free throw, combined with Fellows’ final trip to the line, sealed the hard-fought win.

The Lady Jacks will return home Thursday evening when they host Crossett in Warren.
