EL DORADO, Ark. — Photographers of all experience levels are invited to enter the 2026 Viewfinder Photography Competition, an annual juried exhibition hosted by the South Arkansas Arts Center.

The open-call competition welcomes nearly any subject matter, from landscapes and portraits to abstract images and everyday moments. Organizers encourage photographers to submit any image they are proud to share. Full entry details and submission information are available at https://saac-arts.org/the-viewfinder/.

This year’s competition will be judged by celebrated documentary and architectural photographer Philip Gould of Lafayette, Louisiana. The exhibition will be on display in the South Arkansas Arts Center Galleries from Feb. 2 through March 1, with Gould presenting awards during a public reception on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Gould brings more than five decades of experience to the role, with a career shaped by curiosity, persistence, and a strong sense of place. Reflecting on his approach to judging, Gould said, “I look forward to the chance to engage with a wide range of subject matter, and I am continually impressed by the artistic quality of the photographs submitted. While much of judging a competition is objective, there are always subjective nuances to consider. I pay close attention to an artist’s technique and vision, as well as the overall eloquence of the image.”

Cash awards will be presented in multiple categories, including $500 for Best of Show, $250 for First Place, $150 for Second Place, $100 for Third Place, and a $250 Sponsor’s Purchase Award. The competition is sponsored by The El Dorado Insider and The Diamond Agency, and all winning entries will also be considered for publication in the sponsors’ quarterly magazine.

While the Viewfinder Competition is intentionally open in theme, this year’s Sponsor’s Purchase Award highlights a specific focus. Sponsor Don Hale invites photographers to submit images celebrating the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, with interpretations rooted in Union County. Suggested subjects include flags, landmarks, and moments that reflect local community pride.

Additional information, including deadlines and entry requirements, can be found on the South Arkansas Arts Center website.
