WARREN – Warren residents are about a week and a half away from a significant change in their garbage collection service, as the City of Warren prepares to transition to private franchise provider GFL Environmental beginning the week of April 6.
Many residents have already received a “Residential Trash Pick-up Service-Day Change” notice from GFL Environmental in the mail, outlining their new designated service day.
Under the new system, residential garbage will be collected once per week by GFL trucks, marking a shift from the city’s previous collection schedule.
City officials outlined several key requirements residents must follow to ensure proper service. All household trash must be securely bagged and placed inside the brown City of Warren trash canisters that were distributed to homes last year. Only those official city-issued carts will be serviced.
Residents are instructed to place their canisters by the roadside with sufficient clearance for the automated collection arms used by GFL trucks. To avoid missed pickups, containers should be set out the night before the scheduled service day.
Proper placement of the carts is also required. The wheels should face the house, with the lid opening toward the street. Additionally, residents must leave at least three feet of space between the cart and any surrounding objects such as mailboxes, vehicles, or utility poles.
Officials emphasized that carts should not be overfilled, noting that lids must be able to fully close for pickup to occur. All trash must be bagged before being placed inside the container.
Residents needing additional capacity may request a second 96-gallon cart by contacting the City of Warren Sanitation Department at 870-226-5860. An additional fee of $7 per month will be applied for each extra cart.
Those who may have physical difficulty moving their containers to the curb are encouraged to contact the sanitation department at the same number for assistance.
Residents are also highly encouraged to utilize Warren’s cardboard and paper recycling drop-off locations. City officials noted that reducing the amount of cardboard and paper placed in regular trash helps lower disposal costs for the city, which in turn benefits taxpayers.
The transition marks a major operational change in how residential garbage is handled within the Warren city limits, with city officials urging residents to review their new pickup schedules and follow all guidelines to ensure a smooth rollout of services.
