Warren falls to 0-2 on the young season while Harmony Grove improves to 2-1. The game was a pitcher’s duel for a large portion of the game with neither team having much offensive success until the Cardinals scored two in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-0 edge.
The Lumberjacks quickly responded with two runs in the top of the sixth inning after back-to-back hits by Ryan Spears and Logan Case gave the team a couple of baserunners. Ty Hembree bunted them over before Spears crossed home plate on a passed ball. Aceen Jurado then drove in Case on an RBI fielder’s choice to tie the game at 2-2.
Harmony Grove loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh in their first attempt to walk it off. However, the Orange and Black cut down a runner at the plate and Tucker McDiarmid turned a line drive into a double play to get the team out of the jam and send the game to extra innings. The game remained tied 2-2 until Harmony Grove finally broke through to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth and win the game by a score of 3-2.
Parker O’Neal tossed six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts. Spears tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Harmony Grove’s Daxton Hammett, who has signed to play baseball at Texas Tech, started the game on the mound and lasted four innings.
O’Neal and Spears led the way with two hits in the game. Jude Cathey and Case picked up the other two hits for Warren with Case being robbed of another hit on a diving catch by a Cardinals’ outfielder in the gap.
Warren hits the road again for its next matchup on Monday, March 9. The Jacks will play at DeWitt with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
