MONTICELLO, Ark. — The South Arkansas Aces brought home the Grand Slam Baseball “Growing Legends” 9U Championship on Saturday, May 16, finishing the weekend undefeated with a 4-0 record in tournament play.
The Aces outscored their opponents 33-14 during the event and capped off the weekend with a dramatic extra-inning victory over The Naturals in the championship game.
With the title game tied 7-7 in extra innings, Blaise Brandon delivered the game-winning hit with a single to left field that drove in the winning run and secured the championship for the Aces.
Ace Wagnon was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after an outstanding all-around performance throughout the weekend. Wagnon played second base and shortstop and also came in as a relief pitcher to close out the championship game. On the mound, he allowed no hits and no runs while helping secure the win. At the plate, Wagnon batted .800 during the tournament.
Team members for the South Arkansas Aces include Bradley McCollum, Blaise Brandon, Ace Wagnon, Gentry Fowler, Luke Pace, Brooks Stanfield, Reece Williams, Chase Ashcraft, Emmett Pierce and Luke Culp.
The team is coached by Kyle Wagnon, Matt Pace, Justin Ashcraft and Dalton Fowler.
