HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team opened Great American Conference postseason action Thursday afternoon on the Babe Ruth Field at Majestic Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. As the No.1 seed in the GAC, they took on the No. 8-seeded East Central Tigers. The opening contest took 10 innings and saw the Weevils fall 7-6.

Scoring Recap:
Arkansas-Monticello struck first in the ball game, adding two runs in the first off a fielder’s choice that plated Darcy Barry and a bases-loaded walk that brought home Elijah Olaybal.
The Weevils extended the lead to three in the bottom of the second as a sacrifice fly from Olaybal brought in Kyle Tolley.
ECU got on the board in the third off a single to right center, before tying the game at three in the fifth off a single to right field and a fielder’s choice.
The Tigers took the lead in the sixth, 4-3, off a fielder’s choice.
The Boll Weevils retook the lead in the seventh as Darcy Barry doubled down the left field line to score Kyle Tolley, and a sacrifice fly from Daniel Lizarraga plated Barry.
The lead was retaken by the Tigers in the eighth courtesy of a sacrifice fly and a UAM error, making it 6-5 Tigers.
Tolley drove it the tying run with a single to right field to score AJ Keely, in Arkansas-Monticello’s half of the inning.
Heading into extras tied at six, the Tigers found the decisive run off a double to centerfield. Holding UAM blank in the bottom half, ECU took the game 7-6 in ten.
Pitching Performances:
– Bryce Louis started on the mound for UAM, going 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
– Aiden McGee saw time on the rubber, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout in his 1.0 inning of work.
– Tyler Vincent came in in relief to face one batter in the sixth.
– John White entered to close the game, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and one strikeout. White suffered the setback on the mound.
Offensive Showcase:
– Darcy Barry – 2-for-4 with 2 2B, 2 runs scored, 1 SB, 1 BB, and 1 RBI.
– Elijah Olaybal – 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored.
– AJ Keely – 1-for-3 with 1 run scored.
– Kyle Tolley – 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, and 1BB

The Weevils continue postseason action tomorrow, Friday, May 1, taking on Southeastern Oklahoma State in an elimination game at Babe Ruth Field. First pitch is set for 9:30 a.m.
