BANKS, Ark. — A precautionary boil-water order has been issued for all customers served by Banks Waterworks following a pump malfunction that caused a loss of normal system pressure.
The Arkansas Department of Health confirmed the notice Saturday, June 21. The order was issued as a precaution because contaminated water may have entered the distribution system after the pressure loss.
Customers are advised that water may be unsafe for human consumption. Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a brisk boil for at least one minute before use.
Residents should also discard any existing ice cubes and use only boiled water when making new ice.
The precautionary boil-water notice will remain in effect until the pump issue has been corrected, an adequate disinfectant level has been established throughout the distribution system, and bacteriological testing confirms the water is safe to drink.
The boil order was issued because of a pump malfunction.
