WARREN, Ark. — The Warren Police Department (WPD) requested that the Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) initiate a homicide investigation following the discovery of a deceased individual in Warren on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
At approximately 12:50 a.m., WPD received a 911 call reporting a man lying on the ground outside an apartment in the 900 block of Halligan Street. Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim, identified as Billy Wayne Smith, 53, of Warren. The Bradley County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
The deceased will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is being released at this time.

Update: According to Warren Police Chief Shaun Hildreth, the individual was found in the area of the Creekwood Apartments. The Arkansas State Police are the investigating agency.
