UAM Volleyball Drops Three Sets to Ouachita in Arkadelphia

Arkadelphia, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Volleyball team closed out another GAC Conference Game against the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist University on Thursday night. The Weevils fell in three sets, 25-13, 25-22, 25-12.

FIRST SET (25-13 OBU, OBU leads 1-0)

Arkansas-Monticello started strong in the opening set, taking an early 3-1 lead behind a kill from Sophia Grubbs and an Ouachita attack error. The Tigers responded with a 6-0 run to move ahead, 7-3, before Jalen Scroggins ended the run with a kill. Ouachita later extended its advantage to 13-6, but UAM continued to battle as Ja’Miah Thomas and Isabella Garcia each recorded kills to make it 15-9. The Tigers pushed their lead to 19-10 before an attack error from OBU and a service ace from Kylie Miller brought the Weevils within seven at 19-12. Ouachita answered with a 5-0 run to reach set point at 24-12. UAM fought off the first set point on a Tiger service error before Ouachita closed the opening set, 25-13.

SECOND SET (25-22 OBU, OBU leads 2-0)

Arkansas-Monticello came out strong in the second set, jumping to a 3-0 lead behind kills from Sophia Grubbs and Jalen Scroggins, followed by an ace from Ella Cline. Scroggins added another kill before Kylie Miller and Isabella Garcia connected on back-to-back kills to help UAM hold a 6-3 advantage. Ouachita battled back to tie the set at 7-7, but Garcia responded with a kill and followed with a service ace to put the Weevils back in front, 9-7. The Tigers answered with a 4-0 run to take an 11-9 lead and later moved ahead, 13-10. UAM stayed close as Miller and Grubbs came up with a big block to make it 13-11, before Grubbs and Garcia added kills to keep the Weevils within two at 15-13. Ouachita later built a 19-14 advantage, but UAM responded with a strong 6-1 run. Garcia sparked the push with a kill and service ace before an Ouachita attack error made it 19-17. Cline and Grubbs followed with kills to pull UAM within one, and another Tiger error tied the set at 20-20. A Miller and Cline block gave Arkansas-Monticello a 21-20 lead, forcing an Ouachita timeout. The Tigers responded with four straight points to reach match point at 24-21. Grubbs kept the Weevils alive with a kill, but OBU answered on the following point to close the tightly contested set, 25-22.

THIRD SET (25-12 OBU, OBU wins 3-0)

Ouachita opened the third set with a 3-0 advantage before Arkansas-Monticello got on the board. The Tigers continued to build their lead, moving ahead 5-1 before UAM took advantage of a service error to make it 5-2. Ouachita later extended the advantage to 9-3, but Hannah Hubbard answered with a kill to bring the Weevils to 9-4. The Tigers pushed the lead to 14-5 before another service error gave UAM its sixth point. Ouachita then used a 4-0 run to extend its advantage to 18-6. A Kylie Miller and Jalen Scroggins block to stop the run to make it 18-7. UAM continued to battle late, with Sophia Grubbs recording a kill to make it 23-10 before 2 attack errors from OBU gave the Weevils 12 points. Ouachita closed out the set, 25-12, to secure the match.
