Daylight saving time ends Sunday as clocks fall back one hour

Residents across South Arkansas are reminded to set their clocks back one hour this weekend as daylight saving time comes to an end.

The annual time change will take place at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 1, 2026, when clocks will move backward one hour to 1 a.m., marking the return to Central Standard Time.

The change means residents will gain an extra hour overnight, but it will also bring earlier sunsets and shorter evenings as the fall season continues.

Most smartphones, computers, and other internet-connected devices will automatically adjust to the new time. However, residents may need to manually change clocks on appliances, vehicles, watches, and other devices.

The time change will also mean sunrise occurs approximately one hour earlier according to the clock, providing more daylight during the morning hours. In the evenings, however, darkness will arrive about an hour earlier.

Daylight saving time begins each year on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November under current federal law.

Central Standard Time will remain in effect until Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks will move forward one hour as daylight saving time begins again.

Residents are encouraged to remember the familiar fall reminder: “Fall back” one hour before going to bed Saturday night, October 31.
