Hilton Alexander McCray Jr., 69, of Warren, departed this life May 12, 2022. Born July 28, 1952, he was a son of the late Hilton Sr. and Vera Toatley McCray. He was baptized early in life and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Warren. He was a faithful worker and volunteer at the Mt. Carmel Outreach Ministry and Benevolent Ministry until his health failed.
Hilton attended Bradley County High School and graduated in the class of 1970. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served 4 years, working as a helicopter mechanic. Upon his discharge from the Army he held various occupations working for Sykes Flooring, Cal-Mane Processing and Monarch Boat. He later became self-employed as an auto mechanic.
Hilton united in marriage to the late Loretta Shorter-McCray. To this union of 46 years one child was born.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Anderson.
He is survived by his son, Hilton Alexander McCray III; siblings, Gregory McCray, Edith McCray both of San Antonio, TX., Brenda Harding of Las Vegas, NV.; uncle, Robert Edwards of Monticello; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was May 21 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Warren with Rev. Eddie Hampton Sr. officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Warren. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
