Warren’s Aviation Commission met Thursday and discussed several items pertaining to Warren Municipal Airport.
Present were Chairman Joe “Hank” Wharton and Commissioners Vernon “Bubba” Colvin II and Rick Stracner. Not present were Commissioners Bryan Martin and Rob Reep. Also attending were Mayor Gregg Reep and Administrative Assistant Charlotte Tenner-Brown.
A ramp apron project was discussed. It was stated that the project is waiting on a punch list from a final inspection to be done by McClelland Engineers before the contractor, Pioneer Construction of Crossett, can be paid. Mayor Reep said he would contact McClelland to see when they could make the inspection.
Stracner said some issues needed to be addressed on the project, including standing water on the ramp, areas where asphalt needed to be smoothed out and repairs on concrete affected by a jet fuel spill. The latter will mostly be paid for by grant funds.
In other action:
- Commissioners discussed moving a power line. Stracner said Hangers 6-8 don’t have electricity and live wires have been laying on the ground at times.
- Updating the facility directory was discussed. It was mentioned that it lists a radio frequency to Warren Police Department that might not be in service. At times, they need to be contacted to help remove deer from the runways.
- Building Official Rob Johnson will be asked to perform checks on the airport to make sure a rotating beacon and runway lights are operating properly.
- Use of fuel filters was discussed. It was pointed out that if water goes through the filter, an airplane could lose power.
- Storage policies in hangars will be updated. Currently, some users are storing items other than aircraft, such as furniture, boats and cars.
- Federal Aviation Administration requirements include a five-year check on all airports. Records will be reviewed to make sure the local airport is in compliance.
- The commission will look at increasing the count of aircraft based at the airport from three to 10.
- Stracner said the commission will look at ways to advertise the airport’s availability.
