In what’s becoming a little bit of a genetic trait on this Warren team, the Lumberjacks were on fire early. Senior Jalin Lee led the way with six points in the opening eight minutes. Antonio Jordan contributed a couple of baskets from the field as well in the early minutes to help Warren out to a dominating 16-5 lead after the first quarter.
Malik Day launched the scoring for the orange and black in the second with a shot from beyond the arc. The Jacks matched that first quarter intensity in the second by adding another 16 team points. Jayden Ridgell buried a three from the corner, his preferred spot on the floor. Hamburg junior guard Bowdie Bowden got hot hitting a several threes. His work kept things from getting beyond the Lions’ control in the second. Warren took a 32-23 lead into the locker room at the midway point.
Although the third quarter started slow for the Jacks, Neon’dre Thomas and Donatavion Bluford combined for 12 points in the period following halftime. Hamburg’s Bowden lit up the board though again from beyond the arc. The Lions cut Warren’s lead to 37-34 with 5:34 to go in the quarter. However, Warren went on another little scoring run, reasserting themselves with a 49-40 advantage with 2:10 to go in the quarter. That run was spurred on by point guard Day. He hit a big three and scored five in the final minutes of the third.
The Lumberjacks added another 20 points and pulled away in the fourth in what really didn’t feel like a contest past the 6:00 mark of the fourth quarter.
Five Lumberjacks were into double digit scoring on the night. Antonio Jordan picked up yet another double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Neon’dre Thomas put up 11 points and seven rebounds. Jalin Lee, Dontavion Bluford, and Malik Day each posted 10 points. Jordyn Ingram scored eight and Jayden Ridgell six.
This game marks a sweep this week for the Jacks. They’ve now won four 8-4A Conference games in a row. According to the AAA website, the win moves Warren ahead on Monticello and into fourth place in the league with a Conference record of 7-4. The Lumberjacks are now 9-7 overall on the season.
They face another tough week ahead as they host Conference leaders Watson Chapel February 14. That game will tip off immediately following the Lady Jack game which begins at 5:30 p.m.
