PINE BLUFF, Ark. – A pair of young pitchers in sophomore Nathan Spears and freshman Ren Reep combined to allow two runs as Warren was able to earn a 5-2 conference win over Watson Chapel Tuesday evening in Pine Bluff, Ark.
The Lumberjacks improved to 7-9 overall and 4-7 in 4A-8 action, while the Wildcats dropped to 1-11 overall and 0-11 in conference play. Spears tossed the first three innings for Warren and allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts and one walk. Reep relieved him and went the rest of the way and allowed just one run on two hits. The Warren defense was solid with two double plays turned during the contest.

The Jacks plated two runs in the top of the first inning after Spears led off with a single and Maddox Lassiter walked with one out. Delfino Rivera recorded a double to help the scoring. Warren extended the lead to 3-0 when Jude Cathey scored in the next frame, but Watson Chapel got one back in the bottom half to get within 3-1.
The game remained 3-1 until Warren scored in the top of the fifth inning to move ahead 4-1, but Watson Chapel scored in the bottom half to make it 4-2. The Orange and Black would tack on another run to set the final score of 5-2.
Spears reached base four times with two hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch to lead the Lumberjacks’ offense. The offensive effort paired with a solid pitching performance over three innings earned him the Greg Harton Shelter Insurance Player of the Game award.
Rivera, Landon Wolfe, Cathey, and Lassiter tallied the rest of the hits for the Orange and Black in the victory.
The Lumberjacks are scheduled to play their final regular-season game on Thursday, April 27 at rival Monticello. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
