WARREN, Ark. – As part of an ongoing cleanup effort, significant progress has been made on the block south of the Courthouse, where a series of dilapidated buildings were recently demolished. The renovation project aims to breathe new life into this historic area of Warren, and the developments over the past week have brought the community closer to that goal.
In addition to electrical and plumbing work, a new sidewalk has been poured on the south side of the block.
Over the past week, a considerable amount of work has been completed on the property. One of the initial tasks undertaken was the thorough cleaning of the lots, which were filled with debris from the demolition of several buildings. The removal of the debris has transformed the area, creating a clean and clear space that can now be transformed into something new and vibrant.
The recently demolished buildings included the historic Ederington and Hankins establishments, as well as The Sandwich Shop, home of the former Wayne’s, along with two other structures. These structures had long stood as a reminder of the area’s history but had fallen into disrepair over the years. Recently condemned by the City of Warren due to warnings from structural experts earlier this year, Bradley County stepped in, purchased the properties, and commenced the cleanup effort. A committee is planned to be setup by the County that will work to decide how best to develop the block.
As work continues on the block south of the Courthouse, only a section of Cypress street north of Warren Bank remains closed. East Cedar to the south of the Courthouse is once again open to traffic.
