Hermitage School Board meets for June business

The following are the complete minutes of the June 2023 Hermitage School Board Meeting:

The Hermitage Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 6:00 pm in the Board Room. The following members were present: Russell Richard; Kevin Reep; Mary Hamilton; Gary Vines; Reia Thomas; and Dorothy Davis. Others present were: Dr. Tracy Tucker, Superintendent; Mistie McGhee, 7-12 Principal/SIS. 

The motion to accept the minutes from the May 24, 2023 meeting was made by Kevin Reep. The second was made by Dorothy Davis. The motion passed 6-0. 

The financial report was reviewed. The motion to accept the report and pay bills was made by Mary Hamilton. The second was made by Gary Vines. The motion passed 6-0. 

Mistie McGhee gave the 7-12 Principal/SIS report. 

Dr. Tucker gave the Superintendent’s Report. 

Dr. Tucker gave an update on the American Rescue Plan Act (CARES and ESSER included). 

Dr. Tucker gave an update on School Choice. 

The Solicited Bids were opened: Propane – Gresham (only bid); Bread – Flowers Baking (only bid); Milk – Hiland (only bid); Vehicle Insurance – Farm Bureau (only bid); Student Insurance – Health Special Risks. The motion to accept these bids was made by Reia Thomas. The second was made by Kevin Reep. The motion passed 6-0. 

Dr. Tucker made a request for the approval of Resolution for Carryover Balance Transfer. A motion to accept the request and approve the Resolution for Carryover Balance Transfer was made by Kevin Reep. The second was made by Dorothy Davis. The motion passed 6-0. 

Dr. Tucker made a request for the approval of out-of-state travel for cheer camp. A motion to accept the request and approve the travel out-of-state to cheer camp was made by Mary Hamilton. The second was made by Reia Thomas. The motion passed 6-0.

The Board went into Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. The Board came out of Executive Session. 

Dr. Tucker presented the following staff for hiring: 

  • Ashley Martinez as Program Director for 21st Century; 
  • Anne O’Neill as High School Literacy Teacher; 
  • Melinda Haire as part time Literacy Teacher/Interventionist; 
  • Larry Mitchell as Head Jr. & Sr. Football Coach and Jr. & Sr. Assistant Basketball Coach and ALE Teacher. 

The motion to accept the recommendations for hire was made by Gary Vines. The second was made by Mary Hamilton. The motion passed 6-0. 

Dr. Tucker presented the following staff transfers: Laynie Rogers from Science to Literacy and Ron Hoskins as 7-8 Science Teacher/7 Social Studies. The motion to accept the transfers was made by Gary Vines. The second was made by Reia Thomas. The motion passed 6-0. 

A letter of resignation was received from Jerri Thomas as Para-Professional and Chase Ellis as Head Football Coach, Head Track Coach, and Dean of Students. The motion to accept the resignations was made by Kevin Reep. The second was made by Dorothy Davis. The motion passed 6-0. 

The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Kevin Reep. The second was made by Gary Vines. The motion passed 6-0.
