Bobby Joe Hopper, 1929-2023

Bobby Joe Hopper, age 94.5 went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Bethany, LA. He was born on January 23, 1929 in New Edinburg, AR., the son of Hugh C. and Lennie Hopper. He graduated from New Edinburg High School in 1947. Bob married Anna Joe Balentine on September 20, 1948. They were married for 70 years prior to Ann’s death in 2019. He has been a faithful member of Rose Park Baptist Church for almost 20 years and was a lifetime member of the Lincoln Park Ionic Lodge No. 539 F&AM. Bob retired in 1986 from General Motors as a journeyman painter after 31 years.

 He is survived by his good friend Eva Allgood, his three daughters, Sharon (Ray) Darnell, Nancy Wyrybkowski and June DeLong (Ron Steele), 7 grandchildren: Nickie (Carl) Rowsey, Amy Collum, Larry (Jennifer) Arnold, David (Jenifer) Arnold, Josh (Katie) DeLong, Keith DeLong (Seth) and Samantha DeLong and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Anna J. (Balentine) Hopper, his parents Hugh C. and Lennie Hopper, brothers Max, Charles, Jerry Pat, and Tommy, and sisters Clara, Nell and Agnes.

Graveside Services officiated by Zeb Balentine took place on Friday, June 30 at 10 a.m. in Moseley Cemetery under the direction of Frazer’s Funeral Home. A Memorial Service officiated by Brother Rocky Maddox will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Park Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in memory of Bobby J. Hopper.
