Re-New-ing Edinburg: Community Center sparks excitement with successful events and future plans

NEW EDINBURG, Ark. – The New Edinburg community members gathered for the latest meeting of Re-New-ing Edinburg on July 18, 2023. Led by President Martha Tolano, the meeting witnessed productive discussions and exciting plans for upcoming events.

The meeting commenced with the distribution of minutes from the previous month’s gathering, which were promptly approved after a motion made by Trenna Kemp and seconded by Linda Hornaday.

Financial matters took center stage as Treasurer Linda Hornaday presented the financial statement, which was accepted without any corrections or inquiries, and is now ready for audit.

One of the highlights of the evening was the unanimous decision to organize another game night on August 18 at 6:00 p.m. The previous game night held on June 23 had been a resounding success. Trenna Kemp and Linda Hornaday once again took the lead in proposing the event, and it received overwhelming support from the attendees. The delectable spread of tacos, chips, dips, and other Mexican delights was also agreed upon for the upcoming game night.

The recently concluded New Edinburg All School Reunion, hosted by Re-New-ing Edinburg, was undoubtedly the talk of the town. With approximately 170 attendees, the event was a grand success. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air as old friends, teachers, and classmates reunited. Considering the possibility of an even larger turnout next year, the group pondered the idea of moving the event to April or May, thus taking advantage of outdoor venues to accommodate the growing crowd. While some suggested looking for bigger venues out of town, the prevailing sentiment leaned towards keeping the reunion within the community.

To ensure the future success of such events, the need for additional volunteers for parking, registration, and food service was discussed. The Golden Girl’s commendable efforts in preparing the food were acknowledged, and the idea of purchasing more serving carts to improve efficiency was proposed. Pre-printing name tags to expedite the registration process was also among the ideas shared during the meeting.

The Community Center’s commitment to the community was further evident in its planning of the upcoming Back-to-School Splash on August 5 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event, sponsored by Fordyce Bank & Trust, promises to be a delightful day for children aged 12 and under. Attendees will enjoy hot dogs, chips, and snow cones, and there will be water slides for kids of all ages to revel in. In a thoughtful approach, school supplies will be distributed on a per-family basis, ensuring equitable distribution and support for all. The event’s details will be disseminated through social media platforms like Facebook and local newspapers. Volunteers are encouraged to show up at the community center at 9 a.m. on the 5th to assist with the event. Trenna Kemp has graciously volunteered to handle all food and supplies procurement for the occasion.

As the meeting concluded, excitement lingered in the air with numerous upcoming events on the horizon. The Cleveland County Fair on September 13-16 and the Cleveland County Rodeo on September 29-30 are expected to draw considerable attention. Additionally, New Edinburg’s fall festival on October 28 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Historic Junk Hunt from October 5 to October 7, and the Cleveland County Veterans luncheon on October 28 are eagerly anticipated. The year will end on a joyful note with Santa’s visit to the NE community center on December 15-16.

With the August 15 meeting already marked on their calendars, the community members left the gathering with renewed enthusiasm and anticipation for the forthcoming events organized by Re-New-ing Edinburg and their beloved Community Center.
