Margie Marie Brown was born March 6, 1954, in Warren, Arkansas. She was the second-born child of the late Porter and Catherine Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Earnest and James Brown, plus 4 sisters; Le Vosia Jackson, Bernice Colbert, Annie Ruth Ward and Mary Catherine Brown McCoy. Margie has 2 surviving siblings: Marilyn Brown Meriweather of Houston, Texas and Johnny Mack Brown of Warren, Arkansas.
Margie’s son Bob has 2 children: Bruce Lewis, age 21 and Chloe Lewis, age 14. Bruce is a student at Hastings College in Nebraska. Chloe is in the 9th grade in Houston. Houston. Johnathan is married to Sosena Mehari Markos Lewis.
Margie graduated from Warren High School in 1972 with honors. She was a straight A student and earned a full scholarship to Princeton University. She graduated from Princeton undergraduate school in 1976 then received her master’s degree in special education also from the College of New Jersey in 1979.
Margie married Robert Lewis, Sr while an undergraduate at Princeton. They had 2 sons: Robert Lewis of Houston, Texas and Jonathan Lewis of Silver Spring, Maryland. Margie and Robert Sr. ultimately divorced, and she wed Colin Cross of New Jersey. They divorced also but remained very close. Colin passed away on October 2,2022 in Houston.
Margie worked for the New Jersey Department of Education. She eventually was promoted to be the Director of Education for the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission. Margie retired in 2009 and relocated to Houston.
Margie leaves behind many surviving relatives, including her siblings, her children, and grandchildren also, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and former colleagues, who became lifelong friends.
