Warren School Board lifts mask mandate

Meeting for their monthly business session Monday, November 8, the Warren School Board made several decisions including the lifting of the mask mandate which has been utilized to combat COVID-19. The Board voted unanimously to lift the mandate immediately, but authorizing the Superintendent to reinstate it as he deems necessary if virus cases begin to increase. The matter will be reevaluated by the board at their next meeting.

In other action the board hired three new employees:

  • Charles Lawson as District Maintenance Assistant
  • Maryland Fisher as SPED Paraprofessional
  • April Thompson as SPED Paraprofessional

All were approved in open session after the board conducted an executive session.

As is customary, reports were provided from all administrators for each school and the board heard a presentation from Johnson Controls regarding a plan to save energy and upgrade energy facilities. No action was taken.

The board then elected officers for the new school year. This is done after annual school board elections. Elected were:

  • Jerry Daniels, President
  • Dr. Kerry Pennington, Vice President
  • Angela Marshall, Secretary

In other business the following actions were approved:

  • renewed copy machine lease for 5 years with FlexTG
  • Amended MOU agreement between school district and the Bradley County Sheriff’s office to include salary and benefits for campus Resource Officer
  • Approved Child Care Grant for ABC school in the amount of $32,500.00.

Superintendent Cornish gave his monthly report and stated the school would provide a veterans program at the Cultural Center November 11 for Veterans only. The public will not be invited but the program will be live streamed beginning at 10:00am. He also reported school will be out November 22-26 for Thanksgiving.
