MORO BAY, Ark. – As spring break draws to a close, Moro Bay State Park is gearing up for a bustling summer season. Despite the high water levels in the Ouachita River, the park remains open and vibrant, offering a range of activities for visitors.
According to Moro Bay State Park staff, the recent spring break saw a full park with plenty of outdoor enthusiasts enjoying the Bay. However, fishing has been slow due to the high water levels, currently measured at 75.7 feet. While the river levels fell slightly from Sunday, Monday rain indicates that they will rise again soon, prompting the need for caution but not expecting any closures at this time.
In addition to welcoming visitors, Moro Bay State Park is also offering summer job opportunities for individuals looking to work in a scenic outdoor environment. Two positions are currently open:
- Summer Maintenance Position: This role involves tasks such as weed eating, trash pickup, and painting to maintain the park’s facilities. The position runs from April to the end of July, paying $12.51 per hour. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, and have reliable transportation. The work schedule is mostly weekdays, with four days a week from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Candidates should be prepared to work in summer heat, navigate rough terrain, and hold a valid driver’s license.
- Summer Internship Position: The park is also offering a summer internship through the Student Conservation Association (SCA). This opportunity is available to college students who are Arkansas residents paying in-state tuition, have completed 60 credit hours, and are still pursuing a four-year degree with a declared major.
