The following is the complete minutes from the most recent Re-New-ing Edinburg monthly meeting minutes:
Roger McClellan, President, welcomed those in attendance and called the meeting to order. The minutes of the June meeting were previously emailed to members, but also passed out to those in attendance. Motion was made by Martha Tolano, seconded by Trenna Kemp, to accept the minutes as presented. Motion passed.
Linda Hornaday, Treasurer, presented the financial statement and with no corrections or additions, it will be filed for audit.
The annual Back-to-School Splash will be held at the community center on Saturday, August 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Roger has reserved the same two blowups used at last year’s event and he has contacted Fordyce Bank & Trust who has agreed to once again sponsor the event. This event is free to children 12 and under. Once again hot dogs, chips, drinks and snow cones will be served. Patricia McClellan volunteered to purchase the above items. Don Triplett will provide ice for the drinks and David Kemp will provide ice and flavorings for the snow cones. Everyone was encouraged to contact community members and invite them to the event as it’s always a fun family event.
Game night has been scheduled for Friday, July 26 at 6 p.m. and will be held at the New Edinburg community center. Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite game or puzzle plus “finger foods” and their favorite beverage. Re-New-ing Edinburg will provide all paper products.
Upcoming events include the Cleveland County Fair which will be held at the Fairgrounds in Rison September 10-14. Motion was made by Trenna Kemp, seconded by Patricia McClellan, that Re-New-ing Edinburg sponsor a Youth Entry Contest with a $100 prize to be drawn from the names of youths who enter exhibits at the Fair. Each Junior exhibitor will receive an entry slip for each item entered in the fair. For example, if a junior exhibitor enters ten exhibits, they would be eligible to enter the drawing ten times. Motion passed. Roger reminded the group that he and Patricia would once again sponsor a Veterans and Senior Citizens Day on Friday, September 13 with free hot dogs, water and homemade ice cream from 11 am – 1 pm. Those 18 and older who visit the fair can register for over 20 door prizes which include $25, $50 and $100. Door prizes will be awarded during the intermission of the Cleveland County Beauty pageants Saturday night. Those attending the meeting are encouraged to enter items in the Cleveland County Fair. A 2024 fair tabloid will be available in August, however, entries are basically the same each year so gather up your canned goods, crafts, pictures, vegetables, etc. and enter items on Tuesday, September 10. A youth rally will be held Wednesday night and a bingo night will also be held either Thursday or Friday night. Concessions will be available.
The Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt is scheduled for October 10, 11, and 12, and the Veterans luncheon will be held at the fairgrounds on Saturday, October 26.
Shelia Towery informed the group the Cleveland County School Board is seeking permission to sell the New Edinburg School property and ask the group if they would have any interest in purchasing the metal building where the Christmas Decorations are stored. General discussion was held concerning the property but no decision was reached.
Motion was made by Martha Tolano, seconded by Luis Tolano, to adjourn. Motion passed.
