Raeleigh Milton got things rolling for Warren in the top of the first. After a two-out walk by Charlee Wardlaw and a single from Bayleigh Miller, Milton blasted a three-run home run to dead center field, giving the Lady Jacks a quick 3-0 lead.
Monticello, however, responded with a surge in the bottom of the frame. The Lady Billies strung together three hits—including a home run—along with two walks and a hit batter to take a 5-3 lead.
Warren loaded the bases in the second with two walks and a single from Breize Fellows, but a clutch grab by Monticello’s center fielder on a well-hit ball from Wardlaw ended the threat.
The Lady Billies extended their lead with three runs in the third, two more in the fourth, and closed the game with three additional runs in the fifth.
Warren’s biggest highlight after the opening frame came in the fifth when Wardlaw crushed a towering two-run homer that struck the light pole in right-center field, driving in Ember Johnson who had reached on a hit-by-pitch.
Offensively, Wardlaw and Fellows each went 1-for-2. Milton and Miller added 1-for-3 performances, with Milton and Wardlaw each going yard in the loss.
The Lady Jacks will look to rebound when they travel to Hamburg for another conference contest on Tuesday, April 29.
