NEW EDINBURG, Ark. – Members of the Re-New-ing Edinburg organization met June 17 at the New Edinburg Community Center to discuss recent accomplishments, upcoming community events, and general business matters.
The meeting was called to order by President Martha Tolano. The minutes from the May meeting were previously distributed and approved following a motion by Trenna Kemp and a second by David Kemp.
Treasurer Linda Hornaday provided the financial statement, which will be filed for audit.
Trenna Kemp shared highlights from the Kickstart Cleveland County Banquet held on May 22 in celebration of the group’s ten-year anniversary. Around 15 New Edinburg residents attended the event at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. During the meeting, Luis Tolano was recognized as the Re-New-ing Edinburg Volunteer of the Year for 2024. Tolano had been unable to attend the banquet and received the award in person at the community center.
The group also acknowledged the successful completion of the Great American Cleanup event held on May 31. Patricia McClellan has filed the final report for the effort.
Roger McClellan updated members on the condition of the community center sign, which will be repaired in the fall due to summer heat. The group also briefly discussed the flagpole.
Attention then turned to upcoming events, including the Back-to-School Splash scheduled for July 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the community center. McClellan will work to secure a sponsor and coordinate the reservation of two inflatable attractions for children. Members approved a motion by Luis Tolano, seconded by David Kemp, to provide hot dogs, chips, bottled water, and snow cones to participants during the event.
McClellan, a volunteer with the New Edinburg Fire Department, expressed appreciation for the group’s recent $1,500 donation to the department. He also announced that the next All School Reunion has been scheduled for April 18 and will be catered by Dorey’s Catfish Company.
Members also voted to hold a Game Night on July 10 at 5:30 p.m., following a motion by Trenna Kemp and a second by Linda Hornaday.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was approved. The next Re-New-ing Edinburg meeting is scheduled for July 15.
