Warren Tennis Competes Against Magnolia

WARREN, Ark. – The Warren High School tennis team, led by head coach Micah Richey, faced a strong Magnolia squad yesterday, coming away with two ranked wins and valuable experience against one of the deeper teams on their schedule.

Despite falling short in several close matches, the Lady Jacks and Lumberjacks were able to compete across the board. “We struggled in the ranked column only winning two pro sets,” Richey said, noting the tight matches will serve as learning opportunities moving forward.

Because Magnolia brought such a large team, Warren was able to take advantage of several exhibition matches, adding to their win total on the day.

The Saline River News Players of the Day were Anna Arroyo and Ava Denton, who remained unbeaten in ranked competition this season. The duo earned an 8-2 victory in their No. 1 doubles match, improving to 3-0 on the year.

Ranked Wins

  • Anna Arroyo/Ava Denton – 8-2
  • Livi McKinney/Avery Wharton – 8-6

Exhibition Matches

  • Avery Wharton/Livi McKinney – 6-1
  • Javier Garcia – 6-0
  • George Pena/Adair Gonzalez – 6-0
  • Anna Arroyo/Ava Denton – 6-0
  • Presley Reep – 6-0
  • Anna Arroyo/Bayleigh Miller – 6-0
  • Caper Groves/Angel Herron – 6-0

Richey said the matches against Magnolia provided great competition and confidence-building opportunities as the team moves deeper into its season.
