Hurley Junior Slater, 1947-2025

Hurley Junior Slater, 78, of Warren, passed away November 3, 2025. Born October 13, 1947, to the late Reola ‘Marie’ and Floyd Slater. 

Hurley loved his red truck, fishing, telling jokes and hanging out with his brother, Bill. He was always laughing, and his laugh could make anyone smile. There was never a dull moment when Hurley was around, as he brought joy and laughter wherever he went.

Hurley was preceded in death by his parents, Reola ‘Marie’ and Floyd Slater; his godparents, Shellie and Velton York, who raised him as their own; and his sister, Debra Slater.

He is survived by his sons, Shellie Slater of Pasadena, CA., Jason Hawkins of Baton Rouge, LA.; five sisters, Ann Slater of Monroe, LA., Eva Parish (Walter) of Chicago, IL., Glenda

McCloud (Milton) of North Carolina, Carol Penister of Bellwood, IL., Dean Johnson of Warren, AR.; brother, Willie Barnett (Cathy) of Warren, AR.; god-sister, Debra Hines of Little Rock, AR.; a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held November 15 at Hammons Funeral Home Chapel, Warren, with Rev. Larry Hines officiating. Arrangements by Hammons.
