MORO BAY, Ark. – Outdoor enthusiasts welcomed the new year with a First Day Hike on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Moro Bay State Park as part of Arkansas State Parks’ annual First Day Hikes initiative.
Participants gathered at the Low Water Trail, taking advantage of mild winter temperatures and clear trail conditions to explore the park’s forested landscape and views of Moro Bay. The guided hike marked the official kickoff of the park’s outdoor programming for the new year and encouraged visitors of all ages to begin 2026 with a healthy, outdoor activity.
Winter is often considered one of the best times to hike at Moro Bay State Park, offering fewer insects, improved visibility through the trees, and a quieter experience along the trails. The Low Water Trail, one of the park’s most popular routes, provided an accessible hike for families and visitors while highlighting the area’s natural features and seasonal changes.
First Day Hikes are held annually on January 1 across Arkansas, inviting residents and visitors to explore state parks through organized hikes ranging from easy walks to more challenging routes. The program is designed to promote outdoor recreation, physical wellness, and appreciation for the state’s natural resources.
