WARREN, Ark. — St. James A.M.E. Church hosted its 32nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 7, bringing community members together to honor the life, words, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The banquet, held at the church located at 915 St. James Street, carried the theme “Remembering His Words,” drawn from Amos 5:24: “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
Ms. LaTanza Atkins served as mistress of ceremony. The program included musical selections by Trinity Full Gospel, prayer by Mr. Kilay Cox of Union Hill Baptist Church, and welcoming remarks from Everett Wallace, co-chairperson.
Greetings and a resolution were presented by Warren Mayor Gregg Reep, followed by reflections on the occasion by Ms. Daliss Abraham of St. James A.M.E. Church.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of honorees, recognizing individuals for their service and contributions to the community. Honorees included Gloria Gant, Marilyn Jackson-Smith, Robert Clary, George Alexander, Arletta Allen, Mahogany Tolefree-Lewis, Derrick Childs, Tasha Webb-Wilson, Antonio and Beverly Davis, Donovan Thomas Sr., and Carolyn Davis.
Following a dinner reception, Pastor Denzel Brown of Trinity Full Gospel Church in Monticello delivered the keynote address. Musical selections by Trinity Full Gospel Choir were also featured during the evening program.
Among those in attendance were Warren City Council members Chanel Hooper, Joel Tolefree, and LaTanza Atkins, as well as Bradley County District Judge Bruce Anderson.
The banquet concluded with remarks from the MLK Banquet Committee and a benediction, marking another year of reflection on Dr. King’s message of justice, service, and faith.
