WARREN, Ark. – (3-11-26) — The City of Warren released an announcement to residents this week providing initial information about the city’s upcoming transition to automated residential trash collection using 96-gallon brown roll carts.
City officials noted that the brown carts referenced in the announcement are the same carts that were distributed to Warren residents in recent months.
The change comes as the city prepares to transition from garbage collection performed by city sanitation crews to service provided by GFL Environmental under a recently approved franchise agreement with the company.
City officials and GFL Environmental currently project that the first week of garbage collection under the new system will begin the week of April 6, though the exact pickup day will vary depending on the route assigned to each neighborhood. GFL is expected to operate multiple collection routes, meaning each household will have a designated pickup day each week.
Start dates for specific routes and collection schedules will be announced soon. Residents are encouraged to watch for additional updates and to look for a postcard from GFL Environmental arriving by mail with further information.
Under the automated system, residents will need to place their carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day once routes are announced.
The city also provided several guidelines for proper cart placement and usage:
- Carts should be positioned with the wheels facing the house and the lid opening toward the street.
- Residents must leave at least three feet of space between the cart and other objects such as mailboxes, vehicles, or poles.
- Trash must be bagged before being placed inside the cart.
- Carts should not be overfilled.
- Only carts issued by the City of Warren will be serviced.
Residents who require additional capacity may request a second 96-gallon cart by contacting the City of Warren Sanitation Department at 870-226-5860. The city said an additional charge of $7 per month will be added for each additional cart.
Residents who are disabled and need assistance bringing their cart to the curb may also call the sanitation department to learn more about eligibility and available arrangements.
Information regarding commercial garbage collection under the new system will be released at a later date.
For more information about the transition, residents may contact the City of Warren Sanitation Department at 870-226-5860. Spanish-speaking residents may call the same number for assistance.
