Public Invited to Participate in Archaeology Training Program at Plum Bayou Mounds

The Arkansas Archeological Society is inviting the public to take part in its upcoming Training Program in Archeology, scheduled for May 30 through June 13 at Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park.

According to information released by the organization, the program offers hands-on archaeology experiences for participants ages 8 and up. The annual training program allows individuals to work alongside professional archeologists in the field, learning excavation techniques and helping uncover artifacts at one of Arkansas’s most significant archeological sites.

The society noted that early registration is open for a limited time, with a three-week window remaining for discounted registration. Officials also stated that seminars associated with the program are filling quickly.

The Plum Bayou Mounds site, located near Scott, Arkansas, is a prehistoric Native American ceremonial site featuring earthen mounds built by the Plum Bayou culture more than 1,000 years ago.

Those interested in participating or learning more about the program can visit arkarch.org or use the provided registration link at tinyurl.com/plumbayou.
