MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Softball team heads to Magnolia, Arkansas, for its final road series of the season against the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. Due to forecasted inclement weather the series against SAU has been flexed to a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday, April 23, and a 1:00 p.m. single game on Saturday, April 25. All games will still be contested at Dawson Field at the Dr. Margaret Downing Softball Complex.

LAST MEETING

The Blossoms fell in the three-game series last season and solo non-con midweek, 0-8, 1-5, 0-8, 1-3 (non-conference). Games one and two of the series were played on March 11, while the final GAC game was held on April 15, followed by a non-conference matchup. The Muleriders were the only team to score in game one, scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning and plating two in the second off a fielder’s choice. A fourth run crossed in the third off another Blossom wild pitch. In the fifth, SAU sealed the deal with a single up the middle, scoring a run and a three-run homer to left field to take the game, 8-0. SAU was once again the first team to strike in game two, doing so in the third off a two-run home run to center field. The Muleriders plated two more runs between the fourth and fifth innings off a solo home run to left field and a sacrifice fly to left field, respectively. The Blossoms got their first and only run of the game in the sixth as Maddie Pfleging drove in Vyanna Quezada. The game would come to a close with SAU tacking on the fifth in the final run in the seventh, courtesy of a double down the left field line. The Muleriders were the only team to score in game three, seeing six runs scored in the first and the final two in the fourth. SAU saw two RBI doubles, two RBI singles, and two runs scored on wild pitches in the first to take the early lead. The remaining two runs were plated on an RBI triple and a double. Southern Arkansas would take game three, 8-0 and the GAC series 3-0. The Blossoms were the first team on the board in the non-con, seeing an RBI double from Aubree Goodnight that plated Carleigh Deeds in the third to put UAM up 1-0. Unfortunately, a UAM error led to the tying run scoring in the fourth. The Muleriders saw two more runs score in the sixth, the first on a wild pitch and the second on a sacrifice fly, to take the 3-1 victory.
