Woodlawn Lady Bears rout Spring Hill, earns state tournament berth

MURFREESBORO, Ark. — The Woodlawn Lady Bears secured a state tournament berth Thursday with a dominant 16-0 win over Spring Hill in the opening round of the 2A-4 Regional Tournament.

Woodlawn wasted no time taking control, scoring 15 runs in the first inning before adding one more in the second. The Lady Bears finished with 18 hits and committed no errors in the three-inning victory.

Molly Shelby homered to center field and drove in three runs for Woodlawn. Laci Rauls also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Rauls earned the win in the circle, throwing two hitless innings while striking out six and walking one.

Karsyn Chastain worked the final inning in relief, allowing one hit and no runs.

Several Lady Bears contributed offensively in the win. Jaci Hoyt, Rauls, Kaylee Misho, Shelby, Chastain, Addison Holland and Maeley Simmons each collected two hits. Misho drove in two runs, while Kendall Tooke and Simmons also finished with two RBIs. Skylar Raney added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Woodlawn led 15-0 after the first inning and extended the lead to 16-0 in the second. Spring Hill was held to one hit in the game.

The win moves Woodlawn into the second round of the regional tournament and secures the Lady Bears a spot in the state playoffs. Woodlawn is scheduled to play again today, Friday, May 8, at 2:30 p.m.
