Louis D. Newton, Sr., 93, of Milwaukee, WI., passed away April 25, 2026. Born August 30, 1932, to Sallie Newton Ross and Edward Newton. In his early years, Louis D. selflessly sacrificed his education to help work the family land in Mount Olive, picking cotton and tomatoes alongside his siblings.
Louis D. left home as a young man and moved to Milwaukee, WI., where he built a life defined by hard work and dedication. For many years, he worked two jobs, UOP Boston and Fredman Bag Company, before retiring in 2006. Following his retirement, Louis D. returned home to Mount Olive, AR., where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with friends. He was also a devoted member of the Palestine Church in Johnsville, AR.
Louis D. was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Sallie; children, Kenneth Newton, Stephanie Hardwick; siblings, Willie Mearle Gray, Ed Lee Evan, Zleopha Sanford, Cleopha Phillips, Nathaniel Newton, Tony Newton, Bobbie Newton and Earl D. Newton.
He is survived by his children, Janice K. Newton, Shemika Newton, Louis Newton Jr.; siblings, Napoleon ‘Raymond’ Ross (Susie), Dave Newton, Harold Ross (Amy), Pauline Hicks, Stella Nierwinski; eight grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held May 22 at Palestine AME Church in Johnsville, with Rev. Isaiah Walker officiating. Burial was in Palestine Cemetery, Johnsville, AR. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
