Barbara Ann Sumler, 1960-2026

Barbara Ann Sumler, 66, of Austin, TX., died May 17, 2026. Born January 25, 1960, to Houston Sumler and Bobbie Jean Rainey.

She was a long-time health care worker at the Hampton Nursing Home until the year 2000. She loved spending time with her family, listening to the blues and she also enjoyed sitting on the porch & talking to her long-time neighbors.

Barbara Ann was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Monica ‘Money’ Rainey and Aunt Rasheedah Fort.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Sumler-Shields (Johnathan Sr.); son, Kamunza Sumler (Tamika); grandsons, Johnathan ‘lil Joe’ Shields, Aaron Herrera, Kamunza Sumler Jr., Sain Tavious ‘S.T.’ Sumler; granddaughter, K’Mora Sumler; siblings, Sharee Rainey, Birginia Sumler, Vickie Partman, Patricia Sumler, Henrietta Moore, Johnnie Rainey, Otis Sumler, Billy Sumler, Milton Parker; two special friends, Janice Golden, Jackalene Carson; Goddaughter, Alicia ‘Trina’ White; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held June 6 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Harrell, AR. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery, Hampton, AR. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
