The Bradley County Judge’s Office announced Monday that a burn ban is now in effect across Bradley County as extremely dry conditions continue throughout the county and much of southern Arkansas.
Although the state’s online burn-ban map had not yet been updated to reflect the change, officials confirmed that Bradley County is definitely under a burn ban.
The prolonged stretch of hot, dry weather has left grass, leaves, brush and other vegetation increasingly vulnerable to fire. With little recent rainfall, even a small flame or spark could quickly spread, particularly during windy conditions.
Residents should refrain from burning leaves, brush, household debris or other materials while the ban remains in effect. Extra caution should also be used with activities that could produce sparks, including welding, operating machinery near dry vegetation and allowing trailer chains to drag along roadways.
Motorists should avoid parking vehicles over tall, dry grass, and cigarettes or other smoking materials should never be discarded outdoors.
Bradley County and the surrounding region remain in significant need of rainfall. Residents are encouraged to comply with the burn ban and take precautions to reduce the risk of wildfires until conditions improve.
The ban will remain in effect until the Bradley County Judge’s Office announces that it has been lifted.
