Warren resident Tony Cathey, president of the C&L Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, has earned the Board Leadership Certificate through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
The Board Leadership Certificate, or BLC, is awarded to electric cooperative directors who complete advanced education focused on issues involving cooperative leadership, governance and utility operations.
To qualify for the certificate, directors must first earn the NRECA’s Credentialed Cooperative Director designation and then complete 10 additional credits of advanced, issue-oriented coursework.
C&L Electric said the continuing education helps board members keep pace with changes and increasing demands within the electric utility industry while strengthening their understanding of the cooperative business model.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association represents nearly 900 consumer-owned electric cooperatives across the country, which collectively serve more than 42 million people in 48 states.
C&L Electric Cooperative serves approximately 15,000 members across nine counties in Southeast Arkansas.
The cooperative said Cathey’s achievement reflects its continued effort to ensure board members have the knowledge and training needed to effectively serve C&L Electric’s consumer-members.
