The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, Sept. 8 for its first meeting of the month inside Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County. The meeting had several special guests as the Lions Club joined the meeting for the first time. Both civic organizations will remain separate clubs, but the Lions Club will join the Rotary Club’s meeting several times throughout the year for special programs. Warren High School’s Junior Rotarian Mia Johnson began the meeting with her speech. The main program started with Lions Club President Neeley Vance, who explained some history of the club and its deep ties to the community. She then went into what the current club does with vision screenings and their program to recycle old eyeglasses.
Rotary Club President Andrew Tolbert followed with a brief history of Rotary International and Warren’s club. He continued by talking about the current club and its main service project, the Imagination Library that provides one book a month free of charge to kids under the age of 5. Rotarian Carlton Davis was happy to report they have eclipsed 500 kids in Bradley County that are enrolled in the program. Both answered questions from the group before the meeting was dismissed. The next Rotary Club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22 at noon.
